On the first day of classes this semester, I showed everyone a TED video about a research project at the MIT Media Lab by David Merrill called “Siftables.” Siftables are “smart blocks, cookie-sized, computerized tiles you can stack and shuffle in your hands.” They are designed to be used for educational games. Here is the link to the video: “David Merrill demos Siftables“.
The video is from 2009. I didn’t know it last week, but this project has just now become a commercial product called “Sifteo.” This smart block toy set will soon be on sale. They are kind of expensive (looks like $150 for a set of three), but I bet they will be popular.
